Trees are essential for air quality. They not only produce oxygen, they also absorb and store dust and carbon dioxide. Through their leaves and bark, trees are able to filter pollutant gasses like ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide.

Trees are a natural filter for rainwater because they help reduce erosion and flooding. When we have a big rainfall, trees catch the water in their trunks so it flows into the soil near the tree. From there, the tree can filter it and preserve the water. This also helps prevent pollutants from the stormwater from entering the ocean.

Trees can be carefully grown and selected to be used as building materials, to make furniture, or to serve as a fuel source. Trees also serve as a source of food for animals. Squirrels, birds, and deer rely on tree’s nuts, acorns, and apples.

Trees house and protect a wide range of animal species. They offer mice, birds, bees, opossum, squirrels, and many other animals a safe space to hide from predators, sleep, and reproduce.

During high winds, the leaves and branches of trees can absorb and deflect sound waves caused by storms.
